What We Believe

At Church of the Risen Christ, our beliefs are rooted in Scripture, shaped by the historic Christian faith, and expressed through a community committed to loving God, loving people, and making disciples. We are an independent Christian church — not part of a denomination — but deeply connected to the faith handed down through the ages.

Below is a simple overview of what we believe.

1. Scripture

We confess the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God, the authoritative witness to God’s saving work in Jesus Christ. We read Scripture through the lens of Law and Gospel, trusting that its central message is God’s unconditional grace. We affirm the use of historical-critical interpretation, the insights of scholarship, and the lived experiences of God’s people today.

2. The Triune God

We believe in the one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. God is love, eternally relational, and actively working for the reconciliation of all creation.

3. Jesus Christ

We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, fully God and fully human. Through his life, ministry, death, and resurrection, Christ reveals God’s heart for the world and brings salvation to all people. Christ’s resurrection is the promise of new life, justice, and hope for all creation.

4. The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole church. The Spirit empowers us for discipleship, justice, compassion, and courageous love in the world.

5. Salvation

We affirm that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Faith is not intellectual certainty but trust in God’s promise. God’s grace is freely given to all people, without condition, limit, or exception.

6. The Church

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, called to proclaim the Gospel, administer the Sacraments, and serve the world. We affirm the priesthood of all believers, welcoming the gifts of every person regardless of gender, race, sexuality, ability, or background. We celebrate diverse expressions of faith and welcome ecumenical partnership.

7. The Sacraments

We confess Baptism and Holy Communion as the two sacraments instituted by Christ.

  • Baptism is God’s promise of belonging, forgiveness, and new life. We baptize people of all ages and affirm that God’s claim on us is irrevocable.

  • Holy Communion is Christ’s table of grace, open to all without exception. We practice a fully inclusive table, trusting Christ’s real presence in the meal.

8. Human Dignity & Inclusion

We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and are beloved without condition. all people, their relationships, their families, and their full participation in the life and leadership of the church. We reject all forms of discrimination as contrary to the Gospel.

9. Our Hope

We trust in God’s promise of a renewed creation where justice, mercy, and peace will flourish. We live in hope, empowered by the Spirit to embody Christ’s love in our community and world.
